Traffic - I Want More Please

As you move around on adult webmaster boards you will see a lot of talk about traffic. When webmasters talk about traffic they are talking about the number of surfers who visit their sites. The fact that the talk of traffic can be found almost daily on every webmaster board is an indication of just how important traffic is to every webmaster.

Without traffic you don't make sales, without the ability to get traffic you will not succeed so understanding traffic, knowing where to get traffic, what to do with it once you have it, and how to trade your traffic is vital to your success.

First let's look at where a new webmaster can find traffic.

Free Sites

If you are building free sites you will be able to get traffic from link lists. The Greenguy is a very well known example of a link list and there are many many more link lists out on the net. When you have built a site you submit it to those link lists and if your site meets the requirements of each list that you then they may include your site in their listings.

Most link lists require you to have a reciprocal link in place before you submit your site. When you read each list's submission rules you will see what form that recip must take. You will also see where on your site that recip must be placed; most are happy to have their recip placed on your warning page.

One major point that you must be aware of is that most link lists only want you to list them with 5 or so other lists and so to comply with that and at the same time get your site listed on as many sites as possible you will have to copy or mirror your warning page a number of times. Each copy will have to be called by a different name and don't be tempted to call those pages index1.html, index2.html because link lists don't like it. It is better to name the page using a keyword appropriate to the site.

You will find that some links lists will send you a lot of traffic while others won't send much at all. It will be up to you to decided which ones are productive and which are a waste of time. You will also find that some lists send a lot of traffic to a particular niche and hardly any traffic to others.

In the resource section you will find a small table containing some of the better link lists. Use this as the basis for your own custom list of places to submit your sites to and keep searching for other lists.

TGP Galleries

There really are thousands of TGP lists out there. Some of the bigger ones only take paid submissions so read their rules before you add their recip and don't be in a hurry to pay for a listing. Wait until you are confident in your selling techniques before considering paid listings.

In the past TGP gallery builders have had a bad reputation and over time the submission rules have become very restrictive. Make sure that you read each TGP's rules before submitting to make sure that you comply with their standards.

Some TGPs do not require a recip so you should submit a page free of recips to those lists. The majority of TGPs do require a recip, usually at the top of the page so you will need to mirror your gallery a number of times. The maximum number of recips you should put on a page is 4 and there is at least one high traffic list that only wants to see its recip on the page that you submit to it so be sure read their rules to avoid wasting your time.

One of the secrets to successful TGPing is to build your own list of TGPs that send good, productive traffic. It takes time to compile such a list but in the long term it will save you time and make you money. A list like that becomes an asset and you should not expect other webmasters to give their list away for nothing and you should not give yours away either.

Over in the Resource section you will find the basis for your list of productive TGPs.

Search Engines

Search engines do not require a recip but to get a good listing you need to make your page attractive to search engine spiders. Even before you start building your site you need to decide what keywords or keyword phrases you want to target and then work those keywords and phrases into your site's title as well as into the text in the body of each page on the site. Do not simply copy and paste the text from one page to the next.

A common mistake that new webmasters make is to try obtain a good listing with generic terms such as "sex","fuck" etc. Unfortunately your chances of getting any sort of reasonable listing for any of the adult related single word search terms is remote so it is far better to target niche related phrases that surfers use when searching for porn. There are tools available on the net that will help you identify these phrases and you will find one listed over on the Resource page.

The most influential search engine on the planet is Google, several other search engines take their listings straight from Google and other search engines are now maudlin themselves on Google. So it is important to understand how Google works and build your sites accordingly. Some experienced webmasters build sites exclusively for search engine traffic. That is not a good idea for the new webmaster. It can take several months for a site to get listed on the search engines and even then there is no guarantee that your site will get a good enough listing to attract a reasonable amount of traffic.

It certainly is possible to build a site that is acceptable to link lists and search engines and for a new webmaster a site that will attract both types of traffic is ideal.

Many new webmasters wonder if they should use one of the many paid search engine submission services that appear offering to submit to hundreds of search engines for one low fee. You will also find that there are auto submitters on offer for webmasters. The fact is that there are only a few search engines that are worth submitting to and any webmaster can do that by hand and using an auto submitter is a guaranteed way of getting your domain banned by the search engines.
